I was flipping through the channels today when I happened upon the Rachael Ray show. It’s not something I would normally watch. Rach is cool and all; I’m just not that into talk shows. I decided to watch it because a teen weight loss challenge was featured.
I’m not sure if anyone reads my little weight loss blog here at fat burning spot, or if anyone reading watches Rachael Ray. You can see the video here. It’s worth a watch it features many things that are key in the obesity epidemic in America these days.
This poor chick that was on is 18 years old 5 foot tall and weighs 284 pounds. I’m not dogging on anybody I still have more weight to lose. It’s just incredible though I’m 6 foot 1 and weigh 278, and I’m fat.
So anyway this girl wants to lose 70 pounds by the time prom rolls around and I hope she does. Truthfully it’s not going to happen without some major changes. At least she seems to have a supportive mother. Unfortunately the girl herself seems to lack any sort of drive to lose weight. The first thing she did after talking to her doctor was to have her father order a bunch of crap takeout food.
This is probably her biggest problem; her father is pretty much a scumbag. (I mean I’m sorry he may be an alright guy in some parts of his life.) They showed him with his daughter at the doctor’s office hearing that his daughter’s weight is causing high blood pressure, may cause diabetes, infertility, heart attack and any of the other obesity related illness. He didn’t even seem worried as he ordered a bunch of macaroni and parmigiana for them to gorge like hogs on. I think the question needs to be asked what is more important your daughter learning to eat something healthier or her continuing to breath. That may seem harsh but it’s reality. When the situation is dire action must be taken.
Her mother seemed genuinely horrified by the situation and tried to say something about it. The father quickly squelched this by saying the mothers reactions were stupid. Oh what a lovely guy indeed.
A few things I just want to point out:
Don’t get me wrong I love me some macaroni, I’m Italian, but you rarely see me eating it nowadays. On the occasions I do, once in a while on a cheat day, I also include healthy food with it. Also I only eat whole grain macaroni. If you’re going to eat it make it yourself and make it right with the most healthful ingredients you can.
As I said I am 6 foot 1 and weigh 278 pounds. I was, and I hate to say this, 355 in March of this year. I lost 77 pounds in just over six months. It was hard work period. It continues to be rough sometimes. I lost that weight because I took action. So I say good luck to you Christina I hope you woke up the next day and took action yourself. To her dad I just hope you wake up, imagine how bad you’ll feel if your baby dies because of your own insecurities.
I grew up fat. I have not been blessed enough to become a parent yet. When I do I will do everything in my power to ensure that my child does not grow up fat. I have a lot more to say about this believe me. The whole subject enrages me to be honest.
What is our problem America? With more and more obese in this country, why do we continue to make obese children? How could you want to see your kid go through that? Teach your kids to eat healthy from the door. It is that simple.
Take responsibility and Take action.
